Gifts!

So, I did get some other gifts too…

First thing I love: Christmas decorations at 60% off.

(Doesn’t this look like something out of a magazine?

And it’s just a wreath for MY fireplace! And it was SEVEN DOLLARS).

Second: A Dadd who spent forever finding me some vintage skis to hang and make some art out of for the house!

And third: Super sweet (and taxing) treasure hunt around the house (inside and out!) for the perfect gift from hubby:

All Geared Up

Every year, we go to the ski swap. For three years running, I’ve made out like a bandit. MK, not so much. My boots and skis were like a tenth of what anyone else would sell them for. And they’re SWEET!

I’ve got a gorgeous new coat (half off in San Diego) to add to the package, and I’m only one step away from being cute and economically sensible on the slopes.

The Goody Spin Pin

I love it when things work. And here I can tell you that they do. From the traffic to this post in particular, I know a lot of people are interested. Let me know if you’ve tried these yet! I also love it when someone tells me some new product works too. Let me know your favorite new things so I can share.

My current joy is the Goody Spin Pin.

Not only can I put my hair up and make it look fancier than normal, like I knew I was doing a real updo, but when I take it down, there aren’t any creases or any of that crap that can typically happen. In fact, my layers curl and look better that if I style it, so I’ve been putting the pins in my hair damp and taking it down when it dries to do it for the day.

A New Phone

There have been quite a few occasions here that I’ve told you about my love for my Blackberry. It was a super fun phone and I was addicted to it. I may have not mentioned that I also had many problems with them. The latest Curve that I had crashed and shut off recently, and wiped my address book.

I fortunately had most numbers written down so I didn’t have to get on FB and whine to everyone asking for numbers. But I didn’t really feel like redoing the address book. We discovered that we were eligible for new phones and went to the Verizon store. It was busy but we were taken care of quickly which was great. Droids were buy one get one free so we both upgraded for almost nothing.

At first trying to figure out the phone was fairly amusing. It’s the first phone I had to read the user manual for. The lady at the store told us these things had a two week learning curve and the store even held classes to teach you how to use them. It took me about 4 hours, but I’m in business. All the things I had on my Blackberry are there, and so much more. The app store for the Droid is like crack.

I thought the Blackberry was fun, this thing is killer. Even MK is using the apps and things more than he did on his Blackberry. We’re hooked.

Auction Action

This post is a long time coming and you’re still without some of the photos that make it hilarious until I kick MK, and he’s too tired from house work to be kicked right now.

First, there was the desk auction. The desk ended up being worth 5000$. We, as you might imagine, got an insanely good deal. So we went to a day spa auction. It was a total rip because one guy wanted all the hutches that had caught my eye, and the rest was no exactly what we needed to furnish a house (although if someone knew how to give massages the table for that might have really come in handy after skiing). Then there were some fun ones.

First, some guy that spend 3 million upgrading and renovating and furnishing a house in Park City had I don’t know what happen to him. The house was foreclosed on and going for 1.5 million, and his stuff was auctioned off. ALL his stuff. Poor guy, unless he did something bad, in that case he is totally get what you deserve guy. All the furniture/house stuff was auctioned off, including some notable items such as this moose head – it went for 1400$.

A longhorn (like a dead one’s head, like the moose, which I DID BID ON but did not win. Thought it would be funny but in reality wouldn’t have even fit on a wall in this house). And a USC helmet autographed by BOTH Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart (those are the two USC Heisman guys right? I feel blasphemous even mentioning their names, Hook ‘Em). That helmet went for 240$, which I would imagine to be a good deal but what do I know about that stuff. I was bidding on it early on and was planning on taking a baseball bat to it for a YouTube video because it would have been funny. For 10$, not 240$.

We got an awesome table. Out of all the stuff I wanted, people were going above and beyond what you could buy the stuff new for. Getting a little too caught up in the excitement I think.

Then, today, we went to a car auction preview. This one is nuttier because if half of what we’ve heard is true, the owner was buying one outrageous automobile a day to launder his drug money until he got caught and either murdered a witness or FBI guy (that part is too muddy) and they seized the hundreds of automobiles. There were some of the craziest cars I’ve ever seen with my own two eyes.

There were so many cars they have to have two auctions and we have a buddy coming in to shop too. I can’t wait to see how this goes. Unless MK comes home with the DeLorean, then he’s grounded.

Furniture Is Stupid

Well, not all furniture. Just some furniture.

I was crazy enough to forward MK a listing I saw while perusing our local classifieds online last week for an auction. It was some law firm or something and all their office equipment was for sale. We went and looked at the stuff which was mostly junk, but decided if MK could get a desk for super cheap it’d be kinda cool. It was heavy-duty stuff.

There were two identical desks and MK let the first one go. He got the second one. Cool. Then we disassembled it, slowly. After a trip to Home Depot and out for coffee, we took a load home. Yes, in our car. And this is a big desk. The rest was too big for our car so we borrowed BB’s monster truck. And spent the rest of the day moving the last bit. We were there from maybe 10-4.

The desk is still sitting in pieces all over the house. And I haven’t even given you the details. Wait until you see a picture. It’s HUGE. Like, I shouldn’t be lifting things like this I could HURT MYSELF huge. I’m happy Mr. Works from home has a nice place to work from home now, but it was painful for me. I’m a little girl still, in some regards. This was way out of my league.

Otherwise, though, the auction was a blast and we’ve already planned to go to another one. In spite of the desk almost not being worth the hassle it gave us since I am not a 300lb mover man, it was fun and dirt cheap. I’m thinking we should furnish the whole house solely from auctions and Cragislist. Now THAT would make a good blog.
